Transgender people are the subject of polarised debate in Sweden and there is a tendency to use alarmist examples to stir up emotions. This is shown in a new thesis that examines the language used in opinion pieces on trans-related issues.
It was the inability of both the political right and left to see and take responsibility for the systemic failures of the welfare society that led to the so-called “begging debate” in the early 2010s. An international conference on antiziganism in Europe takes place at Uppsala University on 23–25 October. The purpose of the conference is to contribute to a clearer picture of the phenomenon of antiziganism, both historically and in our own time.
